What Alternative source of energy is best?

from:

Alternative energy has made many inroads in popularity and usability in recent years, due to the rising cost of gasoline and heating fuels and concern over the depletion of fossil fuels. There is also a growing concern over the affect that fossil fuel usage has on the environment as a way of contributing to and increasing global warming, greenhouse gases and carbon emissions. Many people would also like to become more self sufficient and reduce dependency on foreign fuels. In order to do that an alternative source of energy must be utilized. To determine which alternative source of energy is best for any particular individual or organization one must do research to better understand how the alternative source of energy can be made to fit into an individual lifestyle. There are many choices to consider when looking at al alternative source of energy but it need not be overwhelming or difficult to choose the right option. There are also many qualified and experienced professionals available to help with installation of an alternative source of energy as well.

Solar energy is one of the most well recognized alternative source of energy. Solar energy harnesses the power of the sun through the use of photovoltaic panels that store and energy and convert it into a usable form. Solar panels can be purchased as small portable units for several hundred dollars which can be used for small appliances, computers, or to keep car batteries charges. A person could also have their entire household fitted with photovoltaic panels which have the capacity to store enough power to run the meet all of that households needs. This kind of a set-up costs around $20,000. There are currently around 10,000 houses in the United States that are using only solar systems as an alternative source of energy to supply all of their energy needs. Solar energy works best for those who have south facing roofs with lots of exposure and limited shade.

Wind energy is the most widely used alternative source of energy. People have been harnessing the power of the wind for centuries. The modern wind turbines in use today are for more technologically advanced than those used in years past. Wind energy also does not produce any pollution and requires very little maintenance and upkeep. The triple bladed windmills have few moving parts and therefore are very easy to keep running. Wind energy is best for those who live in windy climates. Batteries can be purchased to store additional energy for calm days.

Biotechnology has also provided a way to use biomass, organic materials made from plants and animal residues and wastes. Biomass is used to create biofuels such as ethanol, methane, biodiesel and biocrude. Biofuels can be used as alternatives to fossil fuels such as gasoline and petroleum by anyone interested in an alternative source of energy.
