Wildlife and Sustainable Development and Environment Issues
from: Not so long ago, before the age of sustainable development and environment concerns, land was developed for residential and commercial purposes without any thought to the environment or the wildlife that lived there. For generations, in the name of progress, wildlife has been pushed out of the way and their habitat was taken away. Is it any wonder that so much of wildlife is on the endangered list? In the past several years many communities have implemented the concept of sustainable development and environment issues to change the way we treat wildlife. Wildlife is one of the earth's most beautiful natural resources, and many are dying because they have lost their habitat. Many wild animals don't fare well when their countryside has been taken from them and transformed into residential and business areas and amusement parks.Because sustainable development and environment issues are not short term fixes, we must develop an attitude of conservation in all areas of our lives. Sustainable development and environment issues have been a major concern of the UN for about 50 years, and in recent years the concerns have trickled down to the local levels of government and to the individual.
Human beings have taken up so much of the earth's land surface encroaching on wildlife that they have nowhere to live. Packs of animals are aways having to hunt for new places to live. Deer are getting hit by vehicles on the highways because their forests are shrinking as man builds super highways. It is not unheard of that bears and other wildlife end up in your yard going through your trash can for food. Thanks to sustainable development and environment concerns people are trying to help with the conservation of wildlife. Should a wild animal end up on your property, wildlife officials have the obligation to remove the animal and relocate it to a wildlife refuge. Rather than killing the animal, responsible people should call 911 if it is an emergency. The proper agency will be notified to take the animals to a safe place. Wild animals should not be killed unless the person's life and property is in imminent danger.
In Florida, and many other states commercial and residential sprawl has caused the big cats such as the panther and mountain lion to have no habitat in which to live. It is not unheard of that these big cats come into contact with the domestic animals. As sprawl continues wolves, coyotes, snakes and other wild animals are pushed out of their habitats and become endangered. Before sustainable development and environment issues became a cause to protect wild animals, many were killed out of fear.
On a personal level we can promote sustainable development and environment concerns by creating natural habitats on our own property. Many people erect bird houses feeders, or hang treats out in their trees, so that they will attract birds and squirrels. Many of us enjoy the visits from wildlife. We can do our part to give back to the animals that have suffered because of us. Sustainable development and environment issues are everybody's responsibility.
